The Centre is part of the Australian Institute for Social Research and is a focal point for academic and applied research in the following areas:

  • employment and unemployment
  • education and training
  • demographic change, ageing and workforce development
  • social and economic development
  • social and economic inequality
  • public policy and the role of government
  • gender and restructuring and
  • sustainability.

The Centre provides strategic planning and consultative services to a wide range of industry, government, unions and community organisations.

The Centre specialises in:

  • public policy and labour market analysis
  • industry and workplace surveys
  • social surveys
  • preparation of social, economic, industrial and employment strategies
  • government budget analysis and
  • social and economic impact assessments.
